The Beautiful Lake Issyk-Kul
Issyk-Kul is a huge lake in the mountains that reminds me of the sea - the smell, the waves, everything.
We left Bishkek at 6 am. We were met by a gloomy, drizzly dawn and the mountains looked the same. We didn’t know if we’d be lucky enough to have good weather for our trip, but decided to chance it anyway. In the evening I managed to snap a shot of the storm clouds just before twilight. It was really beautiful.
The next day was gorgeous and sunny. We woke up really early and I was able to take some pictures of a magnificent sunrise. You know how sometimes, when you look at the horizon over the sea, it looks like the clouds are mountains? At Lake Issyk-Kul you can actually see both clouds and mountains on the horizon. It doesn’t fit my understanding of the world. In my mind, Lake Issyk-Kul is still the sea.
We settled into a luxury cottage and everything there was perfect. It was great because there weren’t many people and there were only three or four places to stay that made up each huge complex.
Back on the road to Bishkek, mountains surrounded us everywhere we went. The mountain landscapes are breathtaking. They’re an incredible sight!
