Dungan mosque built in 1907-1910 is a unique architectural monument. Without it modern urban landscape of Karakol is unimaginable. 30 craftsmen under the direction of the architect Chow Sze worked to build it. The mosque has only one floor. The basic material used for the construction is wood (fir, elm, poplar, walnut), and it must be noted that the Dungan mosque was built without any nails, using a system of grooves and slashes.

The mosque building is painted in bright colors: wood pieces and columns are red and purple, the roof is green. The walls are decorated with ornaments and carved patterns showing mythological animals and plants, which should protect the mosque from evil spirits.
