Kyrgyz Ala-Too mountain range

Kyrgyz Ala-Too Range is part of the Tien Shan Mountains and extends 375 km from the Boom gorge in the east to the Talas region in the west. Ala-Too means "Colorful Mountains" in Kyrgyz. The highest point of the range is Semenov Peak at 4875 m.

This section of the Tien-Shan landscape is extremely diverse: from rocky gorges and beautiful valleys to mountain lakes and fir forests. The main part of the range lies in the Chuy region (called Wonderful Valley) and contains more than 10 amazing gorges. 

The most popular place is Ala-Archa National Park with an area of over 2,200 hectares and only 40 km away from the capital of Kyrgyzstan - Bishkek.

This place attracts trekking enthusiasts from around the world. Within the park is Korona (Crown) Peak (4860 m) and Adygene (4393 m) which are popular among climbers, as well as the Ak-Sai glacier. A base camp called “Ratsek Cabin” is located on the way to the glacier.

The Ala-Too Range is also famous for its high mountain lakes. One of them, Lake Kel-Tor, is located at an altitude of 2,700 m in a valley by the same name.
